The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers couldn’t keep the Six Nations Chiefs out of the win column forever, no matter how much they wished they could. The Chiefs humbled the Lakers 12-3 on Tuesday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Game 3 of the Major Series Lacrosse Finals.
The Lakers lead the series 2-1. Game 4 is Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Memorial Centre. Game 5 is set for Sunday at 7 p.m. in Six Nations.
The Lakers surprised the Chiefs in the first two games, handing them their first two losses of the season after an 11-0 regular season. But the Chiefs returned to form on Tuesday and dominated the game from start to finish.
They were up 4-0 in the first period before the Lakers put together a string of three goals in a span of 1:52, including two power play markers from Turner Evans and Joe Resetarits, and then a beauty underhand roller from Thomas Hoggarth on the penalty kill.
But that was all the offence brought in this one. Doug Jamieson shut the door and held the Lakers scoreless for the last 44:16 of playing time.
Cody Jamieson led Six Nations with three goals and two assists and former Laker Eli McLaughlin had a hat trick and one assist. Travis Longboat and Dhane Smith each scored a pair of goals and three assists.
Landon Kells did what he could in goal but was lifted in favour of Drew Hutchison after the Chief’s 10th goal. He returned to start the third period but was pulled again to give him a rest for Thursday with the Lakers down by nine with 11:20 to go.
Tickets for Game 4 are available at the Memorial Centre box office. Let’s show the team the community is behind them and show up for an important Game 4!
