The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers evened their Major Series Lacrosse record at 2-2 on Sunday after a 9-3 win over the Cobourg Kodiaks at the Cobourg Community Centre.
Landon Kells got his first start of the season and made 42 saves. Holden Cattoni and Rob Hellyer led on the scoresheet with a pair of goals each and three and two assists, respectively. Koleton Marquis, Colton Armstrong, Taite Cattoni and Austin Hasen also scored.
“We knew they were a young, fast team and we knew we had to come out, coming off a loss, to get back to 500,” said Armstrong, who was acquired from the Kodiaks last summer. “There’s a lot more younger guys there who just want to play lacrosse and get better.”
The Lakers led 2-1 after the first period, and 7-2 after the second. The third period was feisty, with Kells stopping a penalty shot, Austin Hasen fighting Nick Webb and featuring a combined 62 penalty minutes.
Steven Orleman was strong in Cobourg’s net, making 42 saves on 51 Lakers’ shots. Braeden Saris and Aaron Woods each had two points in the loss.
Missing for the Lakers were Cam Milligan, Joe Resetarits and Jordan Stouros. Jake Withers served a game’s suspension as a result of penalties taken on Thursday. Scratched were Holden Lowes and Andrew Vradenburg.
The Lakers are next in action this Thursday, June 20 when they host the Oakville Rock at the Memorial Centre. Tickets are on sale at the box office.
“We left the fans disappointed last Thursday so I think we owe them one. I think we owe ourselves one,” Armstrong said.
After that, the Lakers will make their first trip to Owen Sound to visit the North Stars on Saturday evening at 7 p.m.
