JUNE 23, 2023 - The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers got a narrow 9-8 win over the Six Nations Chiefs on Thursday night at the Memorial Centre. Now halfway through the regular season, the Lakers sit in second place with a 6-2 record, behind the Chiefs at 7-2.
Turner Evans led Peterborough with four goals and one assist, while call-ups Carter Page and Jason Knox each scored a pair of goals.
Knox, a call-up from the Sr. B Oakville Rock, was elated to be playing with the Lakers.
“I had a lot of fun,” he said. “It’s an honour to be called up to play with some of these guys that I’ve been watching since I was a kid. It’s a dream come true to get out on the floor and share the floor with them.”
Tied at two after the first period, the Lakers rattled off five goals in a row in the second period to lead 8-4 heading to the final frame.
Evans scored the highlight-reel goal of the game, a low backhand shot off of Taite Cattoni’s one-armed pass.
Colton Armstrong made his Lakers’ debut after being acquired on Tuesday from the Cobourg Kodiaks.
“It was good to be back home playing in front of Peterborough and wearing that Lakers jersey,” Armstrong said. “It’s been a dream of mine living across the road and now coming here and putting it on, playing in front of these amazing fans. It was awesome.”
Landon Kells got the win in goal with 46 saves.
Shayne Jackson led the Chiefs with a third-period hat trick.
The Lakers are off until next Thursday, June 29 when they host the Brampton Excelsiors at the Memorial Centre. Tickets are already on sale at the Memorial Centre box office.
