JUNE 21, 2023 - Peterborough Century 21 Lakers general manager Paul Day made a significant trade on Tuesday night, bringing Peterborough native Colton Armstrong back into the fold.
First, the Lakers traded defenceman Caleb Creasor and future considerations to the Brooklin Lacrosse Club for Austin Murphy. Day then flipped Murphy, a 2025 first-round draft pick and future considerations to the Cobourg Kodiaks for Armstrong and a 2024 second-round pick.
“Armstrong is a top right-handed transition player in the NLL for the Halifax Thunderbirds,” stated Day. “We need more goals from our transition game. It’s great to bring a Peterborough guy, who will make an immediate impact, home.”
“As soon as I walk on the floor I’ll make sure to take it all in,” said Armstrong, a Jr. C Lakers grad. “I’ll show them who I am and why I belong there. Hopefully I can help out and bring another Mann Cup home to Peterborough. I’m looking forward to the opportunity that Paul Day and Kodiaks’ GM John Webb have given me to come back home and play for my hometown.”
Armstrong will be in the lineup tomorrow night when the Six Nations Chiefs pay their first visit of the season to the Memorial Centre.
The Lakers also expect Bryce Sweeting and Jay Thorimbert back in the lineup.
The Lakers are asking fans to bring gently used shoes and new socks to the Memorial Centre in support of the Peterborough Lions, who have partnered with SOLES4SOULS to distribute the shoes to those in need both locally and to Kenyan lacrosse players. Donation bins will be available at each door.
The Lakers are also introducing their new mascot on Thursday night after Leo the Laker Lion retired prior to the season in honour of Riddick MacHart.
