This year's winner of the Bobby Allan Legacy Award is Lakers' alumnus Ernie Ellement. Allan presented Ellement with the award at the July 4 Lakers vs Kodiaks game.
Here's the speech that was read over the PA system during the presentation:
It is with great honour and privilege that we announce the recipient of this year’s prestigious Bob Allan Legacy Award. This award recognizes an individual who has exhibited exceptional dedication and long-term contributions to the game of lacrosse and its community.
Join me in congratulating Ernie Ellement as this year's well-deserved recipient! Please welcome Ernie, alongside his wife Sandra, daughter Olivia, and grandkids Jackson, Jayden, and Reilly, to the floor.
Ernie's playing legacy in lacrosse includes being part of the 1984 Mann Cup winning team and founding the Boro Boys Seasonal Lacrosse League, which he manages and plays for. Ernie won multiple OFSAA Provincial Field Lacrosse Championships and was a recent an inductee into the Kenner Wall of Honour.
Off the field, Ernie's dedication to organizing and volunteering for numerous sports teams at St. Peters and Sacred Heart schools has made a lasting difference in the lives of many young athletes. Furthermore, Ernie's devotion to the Special Olympics community in Peterborough is truly commendable. Whether through volunteering, coaching, or organizing, he has been a beacon of light for Special Olympics athletes for many years. His efforts were recognized when he was bestowed with the title of 2018 Educator of the Year by Special Olympics Ontario, a well-deserved honor indeed.
Ernie's recent 12-hour "Lacrosse Day for Our Champions" event raised over $10,000 for Special Olympics Peterborough and the Special Olympics School Championships. His commitment to making a difference is truly unparalleled.
And now, please join me in welcoming Bob Allan, who will be presenting Ernie with this well-deserved award. Let's give a resounding round of applause to Ernie Ellement, the recipient of the Bob Allan Legacy award!
Last year's winner was Len Powers.
