The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers have a 2-0 lead in their MSL semi-final series versus the Brooklin Lacrosse Club after a convincing 9-4 win on Thursday night at the Memorial Centre.
Turner Evans led the way with a pair of goals and three assists, while Joe Resetarits and Matt Gilray contributed three points each. The game was tied 2-2 after the first, but the Lakers outscored Brooklin 3-0 in the second period and never looked back.
Defensive coach Bobby Keast said the team executed their game plan, and called out some of the more standout performances in the game: “Dougie (Doug Buchan) in net made critical saves when called upon. T-waite (Adam Thistlethwaite), he’s just positive energy. I thought Hopey (captain Robert Hope) played his best game of the year for us. Taylor Jensen was exactly what we want.”
Buchan held Brooklin scoreless for nearly 30 minutes throughout the middle of the game, stopped 48 of 52 shots.
Austin Shanks scored twice in the third period to lead BLC, while Zach Higgins stopped 46 shots.
Game 3 goes Saturday night at Iroquois Park Sports Centre in Whitby at 8 p.m. The BLC expect a big crowd from the Ontario Lacrosse Festival taking place at the arena all week. Game four is back in Peterborough on Thursday, August 8 at 8 p.m.
